The Houston-based team behind Saxet Petroleum, Saxet III Minerals, RIP3, Saxet II Minerals, Royalty Interests Partnership, and Saxet I Minerals brings over 200 years of collective experience and decades of affiliation to the mineral/royalty acquisition business.

Team members are entrepreneurs who have owned, built, managed, and sold several oil and gas companies and partnerships and persevered through many cycles of the industry. They have generated numerous exploration projects and have participated in hundreds of wells as operator and non-operator resulting in numerous discoveries.

Their expertise spans disciplines of management, finance, land, geology, engineering, and accounting. The Saxet team’s extensive background in the upstream exploration and production business is an all-important component of its approach to mineral/royalty acquisition. Presently, Saxet manages minerals/royalties in 7 states and 88 counties, has a first quarter 2018 net production of 1,133 BOE/D (60% oil) from more than 3,600 producing wells, and forecasts net production to increase more than 40% by year-end.

Company History

  1992

Saxet Petroleum, Inc., is founded in Houston, centered on domestic oil and gas exploration and development projects on the onshore Gulf Coast and South Texas, and ultimately monetized its asset base in ideal market conditions.

  1998

Saxet Petroleum, Inc., partners with Quantum Energy Partners, a leading private equity provider, to form Saxet Energy, Ltd., focused on generating, operating, and developing oil and gas exploration projects.

2003

Saxet Petroleum, Inc., forms Royalty Interests Partnership, LP, for the acquisition and management of minerals/royalties in South Texas.

  2004

Saxet Energy, Ltd., is sold, resulting in successful investment returns for both parties.

2005

Saxet Petroleum, Inc., forms Saxet Energy II, LP, with private partners to participate in non-operated exploration and development projects on the onshore Gulf Coast and South Texas.

2008-09

Saxet Petroleum, Inc., shifts its focus from exploration and production to mineral/royalty acquisition.

  2010-13

Saxet Energy II, LP, sells all its oil and gas properties and ultimately dissolves the partnership.

Royalty Interests Partnership, LP, is restructured as an ongoing mineral/royalty acquisition vehicle.

Saxet Petroleum, Inc., forms Royalty Interests Partnership II, LP, for the acquisition and management of minerals/royalties.

  2014

Royalty Interests Partnership II, LP, and Royalty Interests Partnership, LP, merge with Royalty Interests Partnership, LP, being the surviving entity.

Saxet Petroleum, Inc., partners with Post Oak Energy Capital, a leading private equity firm, to form Saxet I Minerals, LLC.

2014-16

Royalty Interests Partnership, LP, and Saxet I Minerals, LLC, acquire minerals/royalties in multiple basins throughout the United States.

  2017

Saxet Petroleum, Inc., completes the final acquisition for Saxet I Minerals, LLC, and RIP, LP. All committed capital has been successfully invested.

Saxet Petroleum, Inc., and Post Oak Energy Capital form second generation investment vehicle, Saxet II Minerals, LLC.

Saxet Petroleum, Inc., forms RIP3, LP, to co-invest alongside Saxet II Minerals, LLC.

Saxet II Minerals, LLC, successfully invests all committed capital.

Robert E. O’Brien

President

Robert is the President, owner, and co-founder of Saxet Petroleum, Inc. He brings over 26 years of experience in the oil and gas business to his present roles as General Partner of Royalty Interests Partnership, LP, and RIP3, LP, and as Manager of Saxet I Minerals, LLC, Saxet II Minerals, LLC, and Saxet III Minerals, LLC. In these capacities, he oversees the day-to-day functions of Saxet’s operations, land, engineering, business development, and accounting disciplines. He is directly involved in the Partnership’s execution of its business strategy, deal flow generation, acquisition, deal structuring, joint ventures, capital allocation and risk management, marketing and divestiture of assets, capital raising, and partner relations. Since Saxet’s inception in 1992, Robert has co-founded, developed, and sold other Saxet-related companies.

Robert graduated with a B.B.A. in Business Finance from Southern Methodist University in 1986. He is currently a member of Houston Producers Forum, Houston Energy Finance Group, Independent Petroleum Association of America, Young Presidents Organization, and All-American Wildcatters.

Amy Pearman

Amy is the Controller for Saxet Petroleum, Inc., and she is responsible for maintaining Saxet’s books, joint interest billings, revenue disbursement, payables, receivables, payroll, all financial reporting, budgeting, and accounting for all the oil and gas activities, as well as providing support for the preparation of tax returns. Amy began her career in May 1993 with Sanchez-O’Brien Oil and Gas Corporation, where she was introduced to all aspects of oil and gas operations. After three years of assisting in various departments, she was hired in March of 1996 by Saxet Petroleum, Inc. to maintain the books of the company.

Amy graduated with a B.B.A. in Accounting from the University of Houston-Downtown in 2002.

Erik Karlonas

Erik joined Saxet Petroleum, Inc., in November 2018, and he is responsible for managing Saxet’s various information technologies. Prior to joining Saxet, Erik worked an IT consultant in Houston, Texas and has 12 years experience in the field. Erik is certified in VMware, Dell, and Microsoft environments.

David R. Davis

David is a Geologist at Saxet Petroleum, Inc. and has over 32 years of multi-level operational experience in the oil and gas industry, primarily in the U.S. David studies the multiple basins involved in the unconventional exploration and development plays, examining each basin to provide guidance for the purpose of mineral and royalty acquisitions and leasing. In that capacity, he also provides regional maps of all mineral interests and updates of all related exploration activity on a statewide and area-wide basis to assist co-workers in development, planning, and forecasting business. David has been with Saxet since its formation in 1992. Prior to his career at Saxet, David worked with Sanchez-O’Brien Oil and Gas Corporation in multiple basins, including the Powder River Basin in Wyoming, and the Permian and Gulf Coast Basins in Texas and Louisiana.

David graduated with a B.S. in Geology from the University of Louisiana in 1982. He is a member of the Houston Geological Society and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists.

Walker R. Colt

Walker is a Senior Petroleum Engineer at Saxet Petroleum, Inc. His responsibilities include technical evaluations, reserves management, and data analytics. He works closely with upper management and the mineral/royalty acquisitions team. Prior to joining Saxet, Walker worked at Contango Oil and Gas, gaining experience in completions, production, and reservoir engineering.

Walker graduated with a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering and a minor in Business from Texas A&M University in 2013. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Young Professionals in Energy and Finance.

Rogers L. Crain

Rogers serves as a Landman for Saxet Petroleum, Inc. His responsibilities include title due diligence for acquisitions, the leasing of the mineral interests acquired, and other land functions. Rogers began his land career as an independent contractor working through Roger A. Soape, Inc. where he was involved in all aspects of the land profession, including leasing, due diligence, and curative. After his tenure as an independent contractor, Rogers worked for R. Lacy Services, Inc. based in Longview, Texas where he was exposed to the inner workings of a small, family-owned E&P company.

Rogers graduated with a B.A. from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia in 2009. He graduated with a Masters of Business Administration from Rice University in Houston, TX in 2016.

John currently serves as Executive Vice President of Land for Saxet Petroleum, Inc. He oversees all land functions for Royalty Interests Partnership, LP and Saxet Minerals, LLC, which include the documenting of all acquisitions and divestitures and the necessary title due diligence, as well as the leasing of the mineral interests acquired. John began his land career in 1969, and prior to joining Saxet, he held executive positions of increasing responsibility with several independent oil and gas companies, including King Resources Company, McCormick Oil and Gas Company, Gulfstream Petroleum Corporation, Tangent Oil & Gas, and Sanchez-O’Brien Oil and Gas Corporation. John’s extensive executive and commercial experience in the oil and gas industry includes general management for oil and gas exploration, joint venture negotiations, asset acquisitions and divestures, and land management.

John graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Rice University in Houston, TX 1969.

Reggie Howard

Reggie is the CFO at Saxet Petroleum, Inc. and his responsibilities include managing the financial operations, the capital and budgeting process, investor relations, and general operations of the company. Reggie began his career in oil and gas in 1989 working for Enron as a gas accountant, then as a gas scheduler, and eventually as a natural gas and electricity trader. In 1997, he moved to Noram, which later became Reliant Energy. There, he started the Western US region electricity group. He was tasked with building a group to manage both speculative trading and electricity assets trading, including managing the gas, coal, and environmental permits to run these assets. When he left Reliant in 2003, he was Senior Vice President responsible for all commodity trading for Reliant and had management responsibility for over 125 traders and support staff.

Reggie graduated with a B.B.A. in Business Finance and Economics from Baylor University in 1989.

Sia Wells

Sia is a Senior Acquisitions Analyst at Saxet Petroleum, Inc. and has over 10 years of experience in tax, accounting, and financial reporting specific to the oil and gas industry. Sia joined Saxet Petroleum, Inc. in June 2014. As Senior Analyst, Sia is responsible for evaluating potential acquisitions and monitoring and analyzing the performance of the company’s current assets. Prior to joining Saxet Petroleum Inc., Sia served as Accounting Manager for a small contract operator based in Texas with operations in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, and Texas. In this role, Sia produced monthly JIBs, distributed revenue to investors and royalty interest owners, and prepared monthly severance tax returns and production reports for approximately one hundred operated wells and thirty outside-operated wells. In addition to production accounting duties, Sia managed the accounting for all seven affiliates of the operator. Sia also provided consulting services to other small operators, including accounting systems implementation, staff training, and assistance with quarterly financial reporting and year-end audits. Before her role as Accounting Manager, Sia worked at a local CPA firm preparing tax returns and performing bookkeeping services for businesses and individuals in various industries, including the energy sector. In this role, Sia gained fundamental accounting and tax knowledge she utilizes today.

Ms. Wells graduated from the University of Houston-Downtown with a B.B.A. in Accounting in 2010.

Brandon M. Hulings

Brandon is a Senior Acquisitions Analyst at Saxet Petroleum, Inc. He works with both the mineral/royalty acquisitions team in the modeling and valuation of potential acquisitions and the mineral portfolio management team by maintaining the mineral management database. Prior to joining Saxet, Brandon interned with several oil and gas companies, gaining a broad exposure to various industry disciplines.

Brandon graduated with a B.S. in Applied Geoscience with a minor in Energy Management from Texas Christian University in 2014. He is a member of Young Professionals in Energy and Finance, Houston Producers Forum, Houston Energy Finance Group, and the TCU Alumni Association.

Claire A. Brunner

Claire serves as Land Administrator for Saxet Petroleum, Inc., managing the process of entering contracts and documentation to land programs, as well as coordinating and communicating with land owners, operators, governmental agencies, and personnel on lease issues. Claire ensures the prompt payment of royalty interests and also supports the in-house accounting, finance, and acquisition departments. In addition, Claire organizes and maintains all land files and records. Prior to joining Saxet, Claire served as Project Manager for Novus Land Services, LLC, a company based in the Permian Basin. Claire also gained extensive title and lease experience through her position as title curative and landman with Permian Land Company in Fort Worth, Texas.

Claire graduated from Texas Christian University in 2006, and in 2008, she completed the Petroleum Land Practices Certification Program.

Annie Kight

Annie joined Saxet Petroleum, Inc. as a Senior Accountant in April 2017. She works directly under the Controller, assisting with revenue check stub entry, financial reporting, budgeting, and accounting for all oil and gas activities. Prior to joining Saxet, Annie worked for KPMG LLP, a public accounting firm, as an audit associate.

Annie graduated from Texas Christian University in 2015 with a B.B.A. in Accounting and in 2016 with a Masters in Accounting.

Art Williams

Art joined Saxet Petroleum, Inc. as a Junior Accountant in December 2016, and he is responsible for entering revenue check stub data, entering production data from royalty revenue, assisting with managing incoming revenue payments, and assisting with reconciling and maintaining purchaser accounts. Prior to joining Saxet, Art worked for Everest Oil and Gas, a small company based out of Houston, Texas as a JIB accountant.

Art is currently pursuing his B.B.A. in Accounting at The University of Houston- Victoria.
